Shearers spend week comforting Gary Speed’s widow
ALAN Shearer and his wife Lainya have spent the past week comforting Gary Speed’s grieving widow Louise.
Both families are close and often holiday together. So straight after hearing of Gary’s tragic death, the Shearers left their home in Newcastle to see Louise and her boys Tommy and Ed in Chester.
On BBC’s Football Focus, Shearer paid tribute to his friend: “Gentleman, kind, honest, Gary would always be the first to the bar to buy you a pint and probably would always be last away because he loved a laugh and a joke as well.” John Beresford, who was at Newcastle with Gary and Shearer, revealed: “I know Alan and his wife have been with Louise all week. I still can’t believe it.
“All his friends are the same. We are all saying: ‘Could we have done something?’ We are completely baffled.”
